Problem Data anomaly while self-hosting, traced to two commands missing from the proxy layer
A data anomaly appeared when deploying WorldMonitor on a self-managed setup. After mapping the architecture and data flow with AI assistance, the cause was located in the allowlist of the self-hosted Redis REST proxy, which lacked two commands needed by the news digest:
HSETNX: stores the first-seen time (firstSeen).HINCRBY: accumulates mention counts (mentionCount).
Scope of contribution Two commands and initial tests
Initial commit: added HSETNX and HINCRBY, plus a regression test comparing the digest source file against the allowlist.
Maintainer extension: added four more commands, unified the allow and deny checks across request paths, and extended the tests to run the actual decision logic. Merged afterwards as PR #6937.
WorldMonitor is an existing open-source project (AGPL-3.0-only); the personal contribution is the two commands and the initial tests, and the later extension is the maintainer's work.
Review takeaways Tests should verify what is actually allowed and rejected
Took part in the full cycle from a usage problem through root-cause tracing and a proposed fix to upstream review.
Testing focus after review: besides checking the list contents, also verify the behavior that should actually be allowed and the behavior that should be rejected.
